1. Artist name and where did it originated from?
My artist name is Saturn, Alexander. It originated from when I was about 15 years old, I had a jerkin’ crew and I figured I would pick my favorite sailor moon planet name, so I chose Saturn. With the Alexander part, My actual name is Lexy. Everyone always asks if it’s short for anything. It isn’t but, I do find it akin to Alexander the Great. Also, My grandfather’s middle name was Alexander, and my birthstone is Alexandrite. The comma between the two is because neither name is more important than the other, and they’re interchangeable.
2. Where are you from?
I’m from South Jersey! Sicklerville to be exact.
3. Influences/inspirations?
I honestly get inspiration from everything. Waking up in the morning, having a good day, having a bad day, Everything inspires me to write. As far as to actually releasing my music, My boyfriend who also is in music, his name is YoAstrum. When he started making his music, he made me believe it was possible, so I said fuck it an started! Honestly, as far as influences, it would be Lupe Fiasco, Pharrell and Lil Kim.
4. What makes your music different than other artists ?
I think what separates me from anyone else in my same music making boat is that I’m kinda in and not of. I grew up only being able to listen to gospel, so I didn’t really grow up listening to hip hop, or really anything but gospel. I think this allows me to have a completely different approach when it comes to my music, and that’s why my sound is so different.
5. Dream collab?
My dream collab right now would be Kehlani. I just love love love everything I’ve been seeing from her for a while now.
6. Favorite rapper and why?
My favorite rapper would have to be Kendrick Lamar. Not only is he a Gemini like ya girl. But I feel like his perspective is full. The inherent duality that comes with being a Gemini lends itself to his music, and it resonates with me on another level. 7. Where do you see yourself In 10 years?
In 10 years I see myself established in a position to help people cultivate their creativity, and operate at their highest creative capacity.
8. Favorite album?
My favorite album of all time? Or right now? If it were to be right now I would have to choose Freudian by Daniel Cesar because every single song I love, and I couldn’t tell you the last project that I listened to that I loved all of the tracks equally. If we’re talking of all time? Probably Channel Orange by Frank Ocean. That shit is self explanatory. Channel Orange was a work of art.
9. Upcoming projects?
My next upcoming project is going to be titles Spectrum. And it’s about just that. There’s a Spectrum to everything in life. Nothing is black and white. Nothing is cut and dry. And I want to put that on display. 6 tracks, and it will be dropping first quarter of this year. No specific date yet though.
10. Fun fact about you?
A fun fact about me? When I was like 1, My moms put me in this beauty pageant with all these other little girls. Apparently I walked halfway down the runway, ripped my bow out, and ran back crying lol but ya girl still got that W.
