1. Artist name and where did it originated from?
My stage name is Teddy Oso. My real name is Oji (Aww-Gee) which is West African and means “Gift Bearer”. In high school I use to DJ and came up with Gift Bear out of that but realized it wasn’t going to stick so I stuck with the bear concept and came up with Teddy Oso.
2. Where are you from?
I was born in Lima, Ohio and raised in Phoenix, AZ.
3. Influences/inspirations?
My influences are varied every time I’m asked this question but at the moment they include Pharrell, Prince, Walt Disney.
4. What makes your music different than other singers ?
My music differs from everybody else’s because it’s me. Nobody can tell my personal stories or my emotions, so I’m already different because of that. Studying various artists within music and outside help as well.
5. Dream collab?
My dream collab (Album) would be Quincy Jones as the executive producer, The Neptunes on the entire production, with verses from Tyler, The Creator & Big Sean. Sade on the background vocals for certain tracks and Martin Scorsese directing a short film for the album. Lol it’s a lot but it would be so awesome to have those people create something together.
6. Favorite rapper and why?
At the moment I don’t really have a favorite rapper. But my favorite artist right now is Frank Ocean because he doesn’t compromise his image or music. He’s a very rare artist of my generation, for him to lay low for four years then release two albums back to back and both sound amazing is crazy to me.
7. Where do you see yourself In 10 years?
I see myself working for Disney in some sort of way and having one GRAMMY to my name. Married with two kids as well if we want to talk personal life haha.
8. Favorite album?
Favorite album is a hard question lol. I’ll give you my favorite album for 2017 and it’s Boo Boo by Toro y Moi. The entire album is flawless and plus it was released when my sister and I went to California so for us it set the ultimate vibe for the whole trip.
9. Upcoming projects?
Upcoming projects I would love to speak on but I can’t just yet.
10. Fun fact about you?
Fun fact about myself is that I’ve never been in a relationship longer than a month. WMBMA?
