Check out my interview with Soflo Producer Josh

Jade P.

1. Artist name and where did it originated from?

  • I don't have a rap name I'm just the n**** that records/mixes the songs and shoots the videos . Just Josh is fine

2. Where are you from?

  • I was born in Miami FL but spent most of my time in Broward after my mom felt like the school's here were better. We eventually moved here cause it was more convenient

3. Influences/inspirations?

  • My biggest inspiration would be Birdman and Diddy. There's rappers who're business men such as Jay Z but as far as these two go we see them as business men than rappers if that makes sense. Hov took rap seriously his entire career while Birdman and Diddy mainly rapped early on and once they had a platform they used it to their advantage.

4. What makes your music different from other producers ?

  • I focus on chemistry before anything else. Sometimes when a producer and an artist aren't completely comfortable with each other then the studio sessions are awkward. If the studio sessions awkward then writing becomes forced and so will the song. I always make sure I could make a conversation with whoever I'm in a session with.

5. Dream collab?

  • I need another Kanye and Wayne track. I don't think I've heard one since that lollipop remix in 2008 but that shit don't count I need a real one.

6. Favorite rapper and why?

  • Lil wayne. He's one of the few rappers to sell a million first week and the album that sold a million first week leaked online 2 weeks before the release date. He also created mumble rap with songs like me and my drank, but even when mumbling his lyrics were always clever. The n**** personified lean. You'd think he was talking about a woman through the whole song if you didn't read the title. Nowadays, rappers just mumble bars with no substance/wittiness. Every rapper today has a body and face full of tattoos and a Styrofoam cup

7. Where do you see yourself In 10 years?

I see myself owning one of the biggest independent record labels in the music industry. I'm currently in school for marketing and I graduate soon but I'm getting the degree as a "just in case". After growing up on watching labels like Cash Money go from independent to 1 billion records sold that inspired me to be on my own boss. I built a home studio and self taught myself to mix music so I can make extra money and help rappers I want on the label to get to where they wanna be. Shoutout Riggs, uno, Oakland and my n**** Walley.

8. Favorite album?

  • Tha carter 2 easily. Probably the most underrated album ever for anyone that's listened. If not the carter 2 then the original carter 3 cause the shit leaked like 3 times

9. Upcoming projects?

  • No title on any upcoming projects, we just working. Tryna get a compilation of songs together from everyone I'm working with and promote each of them accordingly. New songs and videos on the way mixed and directed by me. Everyone on the team got their own sound and lane. I feel like we could shake some shit, all it takes is people to take that initiative and support.

10. Fun fact about you?

  • I'm constantly doing something 24/7 whether it's work, school, mixing a song or working the camera. I try to stay as active and knowledgeable as possible cause I know that I'll need it very soon and it'll pay off.
