Check out my Interview with South Carolina rapper Silk The Prince

Jade P.

1. Rap name and where did it originated from?

  • My rap name is Silk The Prince, as lame as this may be lol, i played NBA 2K alot in high school and still do, one of my favorite nicknames on there for your created player was "Silk". i eventually made it my twitter name, and people started calling me Silk, i just added "The Prince" because i thought it flowed smooth.

2. Where are you from?

  • I was born in Charleston, but I was raised all my life in Greenville,SC and that's what i consider home, 864 forever.

3. Influences/inspirations?

  • My biggest influence is Muhammad Ali. I loved his attitude and confidence, even when he was the underdog you couldn't make him believe he wasn't the greatest.

4. What makes your music different than other rappers/producers?

  • Well, for one, i do everything (except producing) myself. I write, record, and engineer all of my songs myself right in my bedroom. I even do my own graphics. Another thing is i have alot of different voices and deliveries. I like to keep the listeners on their toes, and if you listen to a project by me, you'll definitely hear that.

5. Dream collab?

  • Dream collab would definitely have to be Drake, Future, or Gucci Mane. All three do so much for the culture.

6. Favorite rapper and why?

My favorite rapper would have to be Drake. I love how he isn't afraid to just be himself within the music. I relate to him when he talks about how nobody took him serious, but yet he still found a way to the top. You gotta respect that.

7. Where do you see yourself In 10 years?

  • Man in 10 years, i wanna have platinum albums to my name, i really wanna be where Drake, and Kanye are by then. At that point I'll start focusing more on grooming the next generation of artists, and running my own label.

8. Favorite album?

  • It would have to be Take Care by Drake. It's the last physical copy of an album i bought. It's my favorite because it was the album where he knew he was finna be the king of the game but he wasn't quite there yet, you could feel the hunger.

9. Upcoming projects?

  • Considering that i just dropped motel silk, i really wanna focus on that project for now and really give it the proper push it deserves. Maybe something new in the fall..

10. Fun fact about you?

  • Before i was rapping, i garnered a lot of attention as as a graphic designer. I've designed for the Migos, OG Maco, Chief Keef and more .
