Interview with Hanza

Jade P.

1. Rap name and where did it originated from?

  • The origin of my producer name is actually very random. My old music partner used to make fun of my name a lot (real one) and would call me Hansel then he said Hanza and I liked it so it stuck.

2. Where are you from?

  • Both of my parents are Hatian. My mom gave birth to me in Canada and I grew up there a good part of my childhood. Then I moved to Florida and it's all I've known ever since.

3. Influences/inspirations?

  • My influences range from Timblanand to Stevie Wonder to Three 6 Mafia to Nirvana and to Kanye and life and God.

4. What makes your music different than other rappers/producers?

  • For a while I've just been really reclusive and just working on me and my sound. I've worked with a few local artist here and there and everything in this music shit has been Trial & error. Just really learning. But what makes me different I guess is just being free in my production and giving artist space to really express themselves. I have a really diverse sound that people aren't used to (yet) I don't want to follow any ones sounds and what's "popping". I only want to work with artist that feel the same. I hate the artist that ask me to make music that's currently popular. I respectfully decline or just make new shit anyways. But my sound is definitely a new bounce.

5. Dream collab?

  • There's like 3 people I'd like to work with on music and that's Partynextdoor, Ty Dolla $ign, & God. Party & Ty are changing the game right now and bringing this raw style and fusing it with slow R&B but gangsta at the same time. God would be awesome to work because he's all truth.

6. Favorite rapper and why?

  • My favorite rapper right now is Earl Sweatshirt. No one is topping him. He's on another level. And that's actually another dream collab

7. Where do you see yourself In 10 years?

  • In 10 years I see myself being completely happy with everything. I want to make history and change things.

8. Favorite album?

  • Favorite album of all time is Stevie Wonder's innervisions album.

9. Upcoming projects?

  • I have a few things in the work with a couple artist. My main focus are on two R&B artist that are actually dropping projects next month. I have a few things in the works with other artist that I can't name at the moment but God Willing they drop those projects lol. I'm going to be releasing a solo project under my alternative name High Gear hopefully before I move to NY.

10. Fun fact about you?

  • A fun fact about me would be that im actually terrified of Heights. Like scared shitless. It's a paralyzing fear for me.
